Janet Ivin - Occupational Therapist
I have been working in paediatrics since gaining my Diploma in Occupational Therapy (Dip.COT) as a mature student in December 1995.
My main area of interest, within paediatrics, is working with children who come under the “Developmental Co-ordination Disorder” (DCD) umbrella, which includes Dyspraxia. These children have been the bulk of my caseload both within the NHS and in independent practice.
I also have a special interest in handwriting difficulties, and in working with children diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and those with sensory processing difficulties.
Attendances at various study days and training courses has increased my knowledge in these areas. I have also completed theory and foundation, and clinical observations training in Sensory Integration (SI).
In addition, I undertake regular periods of voluntary work in Bangladesh where I have helped to establish an Appropriate Paper-based Technology (APT) workshop.
APT is an eco-friendly low/no cost method of using available resources that would otherwise be disposed of, to make functional equipment. In this instance in Bangladesh it is used to make therapeutic equipment for a children’s unit, and supportive seating for children. Also check out: www.kagojcreations.vpweb.co.uk
My practice is based in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.
Please feel free to contact me to arrange an assessment, to discuss your child’s difficulties, or for any further information that you may require.
